Nan MacDonald

Nan MacDonald, a traditional basket weaver and teacher of indigenous basketry, shares ancestral roots from Americas NE and SE Woodland peoples. Utilizing Oregon White Ash, Red Cedar and Natural Dyes allows Nan to explore the cross sharing of traditional patterns found in the twilled work used by these cultures. Nan has spent 25 years learning traditionalknowledge at the side of Elders and extended family. Working as a basketry and natural resources instructor, Nan endeavors to share her knowledge and skills with the hope of inspiring the next generation of weavers and land stewards. In addition to teaching, Nan has commissioned cultural work on exhibit at the Portland Art Museum, Tillamook Forestry Museum, South Slough Research Center, Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe, Gun Lake Pottawatomie Tribe and the Coquille Indian Tribe in Southern Oregon.
