To the Moon and Back

My first baskets in childhood were simplistic beginner work and yet, to my surprise, my mother cherished these works, kept, and USED them her entire life. Only much later did I realize how basketry connected her to her ancestral traditions in the Kentucky hills of Appalachia. Now I strongly feel my own connections to ancestors by continuing basketry in my own contemporary style and techniques. I experience great feelings of success by mastering hands on techniques of basketry and fiber arts, and appreciate having a source work for aesthetic response and creative design.
