While primarily a paper weaver, I've recently been exploring works more focused on coiled raffia. My background as an architect is pushing me toward three-dimensional forms, yet a continuum runs through all my work, themes of decay and the passage of time. With coiled raffia, this is expressed through forms caught mid-unraveling. No longer functional, they take on new life while recalling what they once were. When weaving paper, I can construct and deconstruct in sequence. Coiling raffia demands something different: I must build the unwinding itself, intentionally create the collapse. It's a reminder that time is fluid, subjective, and always slipping away.
