Skagit Sunset

Woven of basketry willows grown at Dunbar Gardens, Skagit County, WA using traditional willow techniques of pairing, waling and 5 behind 2 border.
The inspiration for this basket is the traditional Irish skib or ciseog.
I’ve used this traditional form to show off some of the beautiful colors of willow that grow on our farm.

My baskets are woven of willow and willow bark using traditional and contemporary basketry techniques. I weave on my farm in Skagit Valley, WA where I grow the willows for my baskets. Weaving baskets while surrounded by the living materials that will become the next season of baskets is my inspiration. With each basket I weave my goal is to showcase the qualities of the willows I use, whether combining varieties and colors in a traditional willow basket or playing with bark textures in a more contemporary bark piece.
