Random Odds & Ends

I was given a challenge to use up some materials our guild had to come up with a project I could teach in a mini workshop at our next meeting. The result is this random weave basket incorporating a mix including round reed, telephone wire, thin plastic ribbon, a palm inflorescence rim and coral embellishment.

I’ve been making crafts as long as I can remember. I always had some sort of project I was working on. I discovered basketry while working with gourds around 2010 and have been learning new basketry techniques and experimenting with different materials ever since. I’ve been playing more with mixing non-natural materials with natural ones, adding pops of color or interest. I’ve been working with polymer clay for several decades now, so have been experimenting on using polymer clay as a basketry material in traditional and non-traditional ways. I’m having fun playing around and trying new things!
