Dance Off No. 3

bak from mulberry tree roots, stitched into a quilt-like panel with waxed linen; sealed common milkweed pods, edge sewn with waxed linen in a blanket stitch which allows me to stitch through to join the pods; waxed linen knotless netting also fills the negative spaces between the pods; curly willow legs, small found objects, pebbles, feathers and turquoise gemstone beads are used for accents.

The natural world has always been my primary muse and source of materials that I juxtapose with human-made objects. I have come to view discarded/found objects as symbolic of our humans and our consumer culture. I try to combine natural and found materials in such a way that each and every material/object retains a sacredness I believe each possesses. The term "reciprocity", the idea of the interdependence of humans and nature and how working together for the betterment of each other, seems the perfect conceptual framework for the work I have been creating for decades.
