Becoming

My basket-making process is spontaneous, innovative, experimental and driven by the deep passion to create vessels that have their own essence. I'm inspired to make a different basket each time, to uncover what's waiting to be created. Baskets are an ancient art form, both functional and artistic, and I'm honored to be carrying on a tradition that has existed for countless generations, from early humans, to now, and beyond, while adding my own essence to the art form. When I teach basketry, I encourage my students to take the skills into their own aesthetic realm, to make something they've never made, or perhaps even dreamed of before, to let the creative spirit move them as their piece manifests into its own form. And, I'm continually delighted by what they build, how they decorate it, and how uplifted they feel when seeing what unique and gorgeous baskets they've brought into the world.
