Becky Stevens is an artist that uses color, pattern, and form to express joy. My hope is that my work will lift your spirit, even if it’s just temporary. Traditional textile techniques are used as a foundation to build innovation and a contemporary approach to fiber art. My art process is a reflection of my environment and the rhythmic, meditative aspects of my everyday life. I enjoy the meditative process it creates within me. I use mark making with thread and stitch to create this recurrent theme. Layers of fabric, paper, and thread combine to symbolize the physical layers, the stratification, of the earth and time, and the depth of our lives. I like to use a visual rhythm, from my repeating stitches to repeating designs to invite the viewer in, knowing that these repeating lines and design elements allow a sense of calmness, a sense of comfort, and a sense of oneness with something that is bigger than the viewer.
