Lee Sipe

As a young girl, I always wanted to create. Art opportunities in my home country were limited at that time. Arriving in the U.S. in 1971, I took art classes at every opportunity, starting with weaving pine needles into baskets. I love working with all-natural materials. I later became enamored in creating vessels from copper wire or silver-plated wire, twining the wire and forging the tips. Copper wire vessels are my focus now.

I became a professional artist in 1983. Creating art gives me great pleasure and energizes me to strive for excellence. Each unique piece inspires me with new ideas for future creations. I live in Columbia, S.C. I am married with four children and nine grandchildren. One of my greatest thrills as an artist was the purchase of my art by the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
