Unakite

Coiling is my favorite method in making a basket. In this case the Unakite tear-drop cabochon influenced the color choice of the stitching material I decided to use, which was Irish waxed Line and polyester. The shapes that my work take is an evolution, deciding at each point in the coils where I am going to go next.

Using materials available from nature brings a sense of being connected to nature as well as basket makers from previous generations throughout the centuries. My senses are involved in my creative process: visual, auditory, smell and touch. I also feel opposition between my creative side that wants explore and experiment and the organized side that seeks order in this increasingly chaotic world.
