Flower Basket for Spring

The materials are copper and fine silver wires. worked in knotless netting, and crochet. At the centre of the vessel is a crocheted flower in fine silver and copper. Two layers of knotless netting, one of natural- coloured copper, one of silvery copper form the body of the vessel. The outer copper shell has a fine silver border. The decorative rim is formed by ten crocheted flowers in two shades of copper attached by knotless netting. The top border is of fine silver.

I work with metal textiles: looping, twining, crocheting, weaving, coiling and needle tatting copper and silver wires. My work almost always takes the shape of a vessel carrying both form and narrative meaning. My pieces are ways of upcycling my busy mind. I'm interested in nature's fragments, women's work, expressing caring relationships and the changing natural world outside my studio window.
