Most of the time I twine with waxed linen. And most of the time, I use shaping and patterns to create undulating landscapes. In this piece I have made a landscape on fire. Fire is beautiful. I have spent many an hour watching flames send twists and turns of color up from burning logs. But during the summer of 2023, when I started this basket, fires were burning vast swathes of forests around the world. Those fires were on my mind and I decided to try to capture the feeling the seeming contradiction of beauty and destruction in one place.
