Born and raised in a small inland town surrounded by heritage farmlands. Our Victorian era home contained both modern furnishings and precious heirlooms. For my mother many objects triggered memories --- it was like she was turning the pages of her family's history. This was my earliest experience of "objects" being able to "carry" ideas -- a concept that has absorbed me in different ways for many decades. Not surprisingly, "baskets" and "containers" have often dominated. Decades later, living in Newfoundland and Labrador this early I was particularly attracted to fish nets but I also delve into the materials for inspiration: for example fish net can be thought of as either "positive" or "negative". And I have often used "bird nests" as stand ins.
