Moving Forward

This basket is made from woven metal fabric handwoven on an 8 shaft loom in a point twill structure. The base of the basket is a 3โ€ warp of 28 gauge wire sett at 30 ends per inch. The weft is a metallic novelty yarn and wire. The fabric is cut into strips, and woven together in a plain weave to form the basket. The rim is covered with the 3โ€ material folded in half and stitched around the top by hand sewing with wire. The embellishment that goes around the basket is a secondary warp, 1โ€ wide, 28 gauge wire sett at 60 ends per inch. The weft is a cotton/acrylic blend yarn that gradates in several shades of green and wire. The smaller material is pleated by hand, then stitched to the surface of the basket by hand with wire.

My basketry is made from woven metal fabric, woven on an 8 shaft floor loom. The warp is made from 28 gauge wire sett at 60 ends per inch, and the weft is fiber and wire. Various widths of woven metal are used for the basketry forms. The basket is hand shaped and assembled, then stitched together with wire for stability. Sometimes the baskets are embellished with beads.
