Juried and Invitational Basketry Exhibit ~ Arrowmont and Fuller Craft Museum
The exhibition coincided with the NBO conference Tradition and Innovation, October 8-13, 2013.
A second venue for the exhibition was held at Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA, November 23, 2013-February 23, 2014.

Description: Dyed and painted longleaf pine needles coiled with waxed linen thread. The natural, paper-like sheath and the first few inches of the needle are dyed, then each dyed needle is dipped in various colors of acrylic paint and allowed to dry before the coiling process begins.

There is an interplay which occurs when pattern and color react and interact with each other that make form and pattern inseparable. Pattern is not only on the surface. It is the surface, an integral part of the form.

Statement: The Blizzard of 78 has remained a measurement pole against which all Nor’easter storms are compared to. Every time a bad one hits New England, the memories of the Blizzard of 78 are awoken. The Blizzard of 2013 shared some eerie similarities with the Blizzard of 1978 – similar wind strengths, high waves, and a development of an eye in the center of the storm. The piece translates wind, temperature and snow data from both storms.
