Accepted and Invited Artists Announced for ATC VIII
Posted on April 8, 2015 by Admin8
The Jury is in …
and the result is another dazzling array of basketry from around the country. Jurors JoAnn Kelly Catsos and Perry Price selected 55 objects by 45 artists for the All Things Considered VIII Exhibition in February. In addition, 16 invited artists, including the conference faculty, will be part of the show. The exhibition will open at the Grand Hand Gallery in St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 9, 2015. A tour of the show will be on the conference schedule. The exhibition will close in St. Paul on August 9 and move to Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massachusetts, from September 18 to November 22, 2015.
According to NBO Board Member Jo Stealey, who has curated the show, the competition was stiff with a pool of 218 entries. The jurors made their selections based on concept, craftsmanship, inventiveness and overall aesthetic success, she said, and the exhibit represents a wide variety of techniques, materials as well as traditional and sculptural baskets.
“You will see some surprising new work of longtime members, along side emerging artists showing for the first time in this biennial event,” Jo added. “We are so excited to feature these works – it is truly a feast for the eyes!”

Materials: feathers, wool, linen
Technique: coiled
Dimensions: 5.00 H X 12.00 W X 12.00 D Inches
I assemble individually beautiful and fragile feathers into strong vessels. Since ancient times, feathers have symbolized spiritual communication, since birds, as messengers, fly between earth and sky. Like elegant chariots, soft yet secure, they are destined to carry a soul on its transmigration into the next world. I have been exploring the womb-like vessel form since the early-80‘s, stitching together materials and meaning, so that we can hold in our hands something as ephemeral, yet strong as pure, as vibrating colors that have assumed a form. I welcome you to journey with me and complete this vision with your own insights.
