Guidelines for Newsletter Submissions

Articles will be considered for publication on any topic of interest to basket weavers, collectors, friends of basketry, etc. Articles may be of any length. However, include as much detail, facts, etc in the article as possible. Submit biographical information about the author.

Feature Artists (cover) must include image of the artist and 6-10 photographs of the artwork. Article length should be approximately 1,200 to 1,500 words.

Editor reserves the right to edit articles for content, length, style and punctuation.

Accompanying Photos for Printed Newsletter & NBO Web Site:

Any number of photos may be submitted. However, the editor reserves the right to choose which photos will be used, on a space -available basis.

Large files over 5 MB should be burned CD or DVD and mailed to NBO at address below. Unfortunately, we are unable to return image submissions in any format.

Copyright must be owned by the artist or be accompanied by written signed permission from copyright owner for all images.

Digital Images for Print (Preferred Format):

  • Native 16 bit color depth -RGB or LAB color with color profile embedded
  • Minimum of 4 x 4 inches at 360 ppi. For cover need larger up to 11 x 11 inches @ 360 ppi - do not use photo manipulation software to enlarge files.
  • Images should not be cropped (extra background can aid in more dramatic layout)
  • TIFF, RAW, or PSD No Compression

Digital Images for Print (Acceptable):

  • 8 bit color depth Maximum quality original JPEG. (JPEGs are compressed each time they are opened and resaved)

Film for Print:

  • Un-mounted color positive film, 35 or 60 mm format.

Digital Images for Web Display:

  • 8 bit color depth Maximum quality original JPG. Please do not save you JPG image as "Progressive."
  • Required Dimensions - 600 pixels horizontal, 600 pixels vertical
  • If your image is not square, we suggest that you mask the sides with black to bring your image to 600 x 600 pixels. Horizontally oriented images should have black horizontal bands on both top and bottom of image. Vertically oriented images should have black vertical bands on both left and right sides.

Calendar Items:

All calendar items must be current with the issue for which they are submitted.

Submission Deadlines:

December 1st - for publication January 1st
March 1st - for publication April 1st
June 1st - for publication July 1st
September 1st - for publication October 1st
