Chincoteague Bay Field Station
Mill Dam Road
Come to majestic Wallops Island to learn a craft that has been woven into indigenous basketry forms throughout the world . We will coil with pine needles and sea grass that we collect ourselves on our exclusive access to NASA-owned Wallops Island reserve. Coiled sea grass basketry reflects the beauty of the barrier island marshes, and you’ll learn to create your own in a small group setting. Through field trips and lectures, gain a special appreciation for the island ecology and what’s being done to protect this fragile and ever-changing habitat.
