Eligibility: The competition is open to all artists over the age of 18, in the fibers media. Artists are able to submit up to six (6) pieces, however, due to space constrictions, all six pieces may not be accepted.
Specifications: All works must have been completed in the last three years and not previously submitted to the Columbus Arts Council. Out of the six (6) submitted pieces, no more than one (1) may be not for sale (NFS.) Maximum dimensions for hanging pieces are 48 inches wide x 72 inches tall including frames and cannot be heavier than 100 pounds. Works needing to be displayed on pedestals may not be larger than 24 inches in width or depth. Works to be displayed on the floor do not have any size constrictions. If hanging work is larger than 48 inches, contact the Columbus Arts Council to see about hanging it on a larger wall space.If applicable, works must arrive in frames and ready to hang or install. Works that do not arrive ready to install will be rejected.Must have ID in lower left corner on back of art – include artist’s name, price, title and type of medium – 3D work should have the ID on bottom. The Columbus Arts Council does not have insurance for artists’ work, so if insurance is needed, it is the responsibility or the artist.
Submissions: For submissions, please send colored image printouts with an image of the work as well as the title, size, medium and completion date. This must accompany the application form via mail or email. Images of sculptures can be shown in more than one view.
Mailing Fee: If you are not able to hand deliver your pieces, you may have your pieces delivered to the Columbus Arts Council at 501 Main Street, Columbus, MS 39705. We will accept and return artwork via USPS, UPS and FedEx. You must pay for shipping both ways. Cash or a check made out to the Columbus Arts Council for the amount that was needed to send the piece(s) to the CAC must accompany the pieces when delivered if you want your piece(s) mailed back to you. Fees are non-refundable. Fees will only be returned if the show is cancelled.
Accepted Works: Pieces chosen from submitted print-outs must be hand-delivered or mailed to the Rosenzweig Arts Center arriving no later than the week of May 28-31. Each work should be labeled exactly as it was listed on the entry form. Prices or other details may not be changed. No substitutions for accepted works or changes to the submitted entry card will be permitted. Work may not be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition (June 29, 2013). Decisions are final. All work that was hand delivered must be picked up by 5 PM on June 29, 2013 or they will become property of the Columbus Arts Center. Works that were sent by mail will be delivered to the post office by a CAC staff member no later than July 3, 2013.
Sales and Commissions: The Gallery will retain 30% commission for the sale of any item and will collect and report Mississippi sales tax on sales. The artist will be paid the gross revenue of sales, less the commission and sales tax, no later than the 10th of the month following the month of the sale.
